GTL is Back!

August 7, 2010

Yes, everyone the orange tanned fist pumpers from New Jersey are back.

Whether you love them or hate them the Italians are in one of the biggest party areas in America… Miami.

GTL stands for Gym, Tan, and Laundry, which was made famous by Pauly D and the Situation.

Run down on each character from my favorites to least favorites:

1. The Situation- He’s got his own nickname and he has his own lingo that have become classic.

For example, a Grenade (an ugly girl with a group of hot friends) and this season the land mine (an uglier grenade).

2. Pauly D- he’s the situation’s wingman and he’s a DJ.

3. Snooki- She’s short, chubby, and now wears diamond sunglasses.

4. Vinny- He”s the best fist pumper in the house and never is in any drama.

5. JWoww- she’s hot and can fight really well, which was shown in the first season.

6. Ronnie- he’s a total meathead that can’t get over Sammi.

7. Sammi- she’s cute, but always causes drama with her and Ronnie.

8. Angelina- she’s a drama queen and everyone in the house dislikes her.

The show is on every thursday on MTV at 7 PM.

This video shows clips of season 1, but it incorporates GTL and fist pumping with cool background music.

Get Ready for Wipeout

August 5, 2010

Wipeout is possibly one of the most hilarious and underrated shows currently on TV.

Wipeout is an American game show series in which contestants compete in what is billed as the “world’s largest obstacle course”.

It’s called Wipeout because when a contestant falls off one of the obstacles they usually land in mostly water or wet mud.

It’s hilarious because it takes crazy people and makes them look like a fool while they try to win money.

Wipeout is hosted and commentated by John Henson and John Anderson while Jill Wagner acts as the “on-location” presenter.

Anderson is the smart witted broadcaster, Henson brings the humor, but in a childish manor, and Wagner brings the sexiness and just everything you look for in a sideline reporter.

My two favorite obstacles on the show are the “Sucker Punch” and “Big Balls” because they show people getting beat up and thrown in the water in nearly impossible obstacles that are always on show every week.

On March 18, 2010, Activision announced the show would be made into a video game titled Wipeout: The Game, set to be released along with the show’s third season.

Please watch Wipeout on ABC on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8 pm.

Roc Nation’s New Star

August 1, 2010

Jermaine Cole aka J. Cole is getting big on the scene because of his smooth rap flow and chill beats.

Cole is best known for being the first artist to be signed to Jay-Z’s label Roc Nation.

Cole started rapping at the age of 12 when his cousin showed him the basics of rhyming.

Inspired by Tupac Shakur,Canibus, Nas, and Outkast, J. Cole developed a love for telling stories in his lyrics.

Cole released his debut mixtape, The Come Up, in late 2007 after graduating college.

Jay-Z signed Cole after hearing one of the songs, “Lights Please.”

Prior to releasing his second mixtape, Cole released the single, “Show Me Somethin’” for promotional purposes.

He released his second mixtape, The Warm Up, on June 15, 2009.

My favorite songs by him are “Lights Please”, “I Get Up” and “Heartache”.

J.Cole’s debut album Cole World will be coming out later this year.

To see some more of his music go to http://www.jcolemusic.com

This is the video for his first single from his debut album called “Who Dat”.

King James and his free agent Court

July 5, 2010

Ever since Lebron “King” James got drafted as the first pick of the 2003 NBA draft expectations were high, but I believe he has exceeded them.

Major awards won have been two-time NBA Most Valuable Player, six-time NBA all-star, and he won the scoring champion in 2008 to name a few.

The only thing he is missing is a championship ring, which Kobe Bryant (The No. 2 player in the NBA) has five rings.

Now, done with his 6 year deal with the Cavs,  the King is looking at his options and many teams are in the running.

I’ll give you a run down of my top five teams he might go to and why he would go there.

1. Chicago Bulls- The Bulls are in the lead not because his favorite player played there, but because the pieces are in place for a championship run. The young guns include Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, and Taj Gibson to name a few.

2. Cleveland Cavaliers- They are still a pretty decent team finishing first in record in the NBA last year, he is close to where he grew up, and the addition of new coach Byron Scott makes them the number two in my  opinion.

3. New York Knicks- Number 3 because it’s “New York City”, celebrities like Spike Lee get to watch you, and they already have T-Mac and Amare Stoudamire on the team. The Knicks also have the money and want to get back to prominence like the “Ewing” and “Frazier” Era.

4. Miami Heat- The only way James will be a Heat is if they don’t re-sign Wade and they sign Chris Bosh. Plus Miami is a nice city to live in with good fan support.

5. Los Angeles Clippers- Two reasons why they made the list. One, Blake Griffen is already there and will continue to get better. Number two is because he would play in the same arena that the number two player in the league would play in and it could become a rivalry.

My answer is it’s between the Bulls and Magic.

Dean’s List makes my Newcomers List

July 5, 2010

Dean’s list is a 4 -man music group based out of Boston, Massachusetts.

They’re a group of individuals that have come together under one common belief/purpose.

And that is to provide innovative yet professional quality music and media on a national (and eventually international) platform.

Sonny Shotz on Vocals has a sick rap flow with DJ Mendoza and Mik Beats creating beats that improve the song.

One of their songs “Valley Girl” takes part The Script’s “Breakeven” to use as a background, which I think is sick.

Songs I like:

“Last Semester”, “Valley Girl”, “Sunset Thoughts”, “Be Different”, and their new song “Repeat”.

Super Mash Bros. hit the scene

May 12, 2010

The mash group you should be listening to are the Super Mash Bros. because they are producing some of the best mash-ups right now.

A mashup  is a song or composition created by blending two or more songs, usually by overlaying the vocal track of one song seamlessly over the music track of another.

Some people well know for this type of music are DJs like Girl Talk, who I personally got to see in concert.

They have weird names for the mash-ups, but the songs that are mashed together might not seem to work together, but trust me they do.

TV shows like Glee are even producing mash-ups, which show you how popular they are becoming so quickly.

They have produced two mixtapes, which are All about the Scrillions and Fuck Bitches. Get Euros.

My top three favorite songs are: “Broseidon, Lord Of The Brocean”, “D.G.A.F.L.Y.F”, and “Bruce Willis Was Dead The Whole Time”.

My Freshman year review at IU

May 7, 2010

If you didn’t know, I was a freshman at Indiana University- Bloomington, and now am officially a Sophomore.

I know this a long post, but read it to bring back memories or start memories while you’re at college.

I’ll let you know the positives and negatives with going to this school including some freshman words of advice.

I hope you like my five, five, five deal (five positives, five negatives, and five pieces of advice).

Positives:

Indiana Daily Student: I was the field hockey (fall) and softball (spring) beat writer for one of the top college newspapers in the country. In the fall of my sophomore year, I will be covering the Volleyball (women’s varsity) team for the newspaper.

WIUX 99.1 Pure Student Radio and the Home for Hoosier Sports: With this radio station, who almost won an MTV woody award for the best college radio stations, I have broadcasted sporting events, been involved with Sports talk shows, and engineered some of the top IU athletic events. Just to name a few, I broadcasted one football game (IU vs. Purdue), two basketball games (IU at Northwestern and IU vs. Wisconsin), and broadcasted mens/ women’s soccer and baseball games.

Food: The Read Dorms have one of the best and fattening food places on campus. At the Bistro, you can build your own sandwich, burritos, and/ or nachos. It’s delicious to eat their and sometimes I went to the traditional cafe, where you can build your own burger.

Friends on Read Curry 5 floor: This year I made tons of friends from kids from Chi-town, to Indiana buddies to a kid from Virginia. The people you meet, you may love, like, or even hate them by the end of the year, but at least you know you made a relationship with them that could last one week or one lifetime. My best friend and roommate Mike Ochoa, was one of the luckiest things to happen to me. Although, he only lasted one semester as a Hoosier, I think I made a lifetime friend and he would probably say the same.

The Campus: It’s a big campus, but after a while you get used to the size and where your classes are. I named it as a positive because the campus is beautiful, with all of the lush green trees and limestone buildings that I believe make up one of the most underrated campus’ in the nation.

Negatives:

Parking tickets: Although, I didn’t have a car, I had friends that did and got tickets on the regular. Everyday walking to class out of the 50 cars I would see, I saw about 5- 10 cars with tickets on the windshield.

The Cops: They are tough, brutal, and want to arrest you for the sole purpose to boost their ego and “bust sheet”. By the “bust sheet”, I mean their superiors love it when they give out a drinking ticket, arrest a 21-year old for buying alcohol, or just arresting someone for being indecent in public. Don’t get involved with the cops or you might be paranoid for the rest of the year. Especially in the state of Indiana, where they will give you a heavy charge if caught with Marijuana, not saying I got busted for that, but I know people who did.

The gym during rush hours: I loved the gym because it kept me from gaining that freshman “15″ or “25″, but seriously sometimes that gym would be packed and I would have to wait in a line for 15-20 minutes just to get to workout because of the maximum capacity limit. A positive to this negative are the cute girls getting their bodies in “spring break” form, which made gave me motivation during my workouts.

Resident Assistant’s: Although, I had good RA my first year, there were RA’s that would sell-out kids on the floor and not be helpful when you even had questions.

Large classes: I didn’t always like large 400-500 person lecture halls because it was hard to learn the subject when the person next to you is playing a game, or checking out a hot girl on facebook. People aren’t focused in big classes and sometimes fall asleep, I know I did occasionally and I caught Phill a few times also.

Advice:

-Get involved and take initiative in things you love to do in the future. For example, my involvement with the IDS and WIUX has boosted my resume

-The “Freshman 15″ is real, so either eat less unhealthy foods or workout to counter-attack the weight gain in your first year.

-Be active on your dorm floor, get to know people on your floor and in the organizations your involved with to make friends.

-Go to parties drink, smoke and meet people whether it may be girls, boys, or mixes of both, college has it all.

-Have fun its your first year to experience a lot of things, so go out and “just do it” as Nike says because you might love or regret what you did, but at least you can say you did it!

DBA: Teen Phillies Fan Tasered

May 4, 2010

My double bogey award goes to cops using a taser against a fan at the Phillies game.

A 17-year-old Phillies fan hopped a fence at Citizens Bank Park.

He fled security for a few seconds until a Philadelphia police officer fired a Taser gun at the boy from about 15-feet away, dropping him on the spot in left-center field.

He’s being charged as a juvenile for resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and defiant trespass.

“He wasn’t drinking. He was not on drugs,” the father said.

This is kid wasn’t drunk or on drugs, and they tasered him.

Come on Philly police, you don’t need to taser every fan that runs on the field, the rest of the stadiums don’t use tasers when someone runs on the field.

NBA playoffs RD2

May 2, 2010

First my thought on Round 1 then my predictions and thoughts on RD 2.

Lakers going to game 6 surprised me, since I had them winning in five.

San Antonio winning was a big shocker.

Utah beating the Nuggets also surprised me because I thought Anthony would step it up.

The last surprise is the Celtics beating the heat in 5 games instead of 7 games, which is what I thought would happen.

Western Conference:

Spurs beat Suns in seven games

Too much experience in the playoffs for the Spurs and Richard Jefferson is the X-Factor

Lakers beat Jazz in six games

Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol- best tag team in the NBA.

Eastern Conference:

Cavaliers beat Celtics in seven game

Lebron James is a beast.

Magic beat Hawks in six games

Too much depth and Vinsanity can shoot the jumper.

Borel Wins Kentucky Derby Again

May 2, 2010

Calvin Borel and Super Saver won the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, even though the track was sloppy due to rain.

Borel becomes the first jockey to win three derby’s in four years.

Borel is a 43-year-old that they call the “Cajun Kid”.

I had Borel winning because of his rail to rail racing style and Todd Pletcher was the trainer, which is in the top 3 horse racing trainers in the world.

In my opinion he is one of the best riders and Kentucky derby rides that the racing world has ever seen.

In my mind, it is all about the jockey in a race like this because the horses are all similar in physicality, but Borel is one of the bests in the world of racing.

Although, Horse Racing is not exactly a sport, I’m doing a blog post because millions made bets on saturday and over 150,000 showed up at Churchill Downs.

congratulations to Borel, Pletcher, and the people who bet on Super Saver and won.
