King James and his free agent Court

July 5, 2010

Ever since Lebron “King” James got drafted as the first pick of the 2003 NBA draft expectations were high, but I believe he has exceeded them.

Major awards won have been two-time NBA Most Valuable Player, six-time NBA all-star, and he won the scoring champion in 2008 to name a few.

The only thing he is missing is a championship ring, which Kobe Bryant (The No. 2 player in the NBA) has five rings.

Now, done with his 6 year deal with the Cavs,  the King is looking at his options and many teams are in the running.

I’ll give you a run down of my top five teams he might go to and why he would go there.

1. Chicago Bulls- The Bulls are in the lead not because his favorite player played there, but because the pieces are in place for a championship run. The young guns include Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, and Taj Gibson to name a few.

2. Cleveland Cavaliers- They are still a pretty decent team finishing first in record in the NBA last year, he is close to where he grew up, and the addition of new coach Byron Scott makes them the number two in my  opinion.

3. New York Knicks- Number 3 because it’s “New York City”, celebrities like Spike Lee get to watch you, and they already have T-Mac and Amare Stoudamire on the team. The Knicks also have the money and want to get back to prominence like the “Ewing” and “Frazier” Era.

4. Miami Heat- The only way James will be a Heat is if they don’t re-sign Wade and they sign Chris Bosh. Plus Miami is a nice city to live in with good fan support.

5. Los Angeles Clippers- Two reasons why they made the list. One, Blake Griffen is already there and will continue to get better. Number two is because he would play in the same arena that the number two player in the league would play in and it could become a rivalry.

My answer is it’s between the Bulls and Magic.

NBA playoffs RD2

May 2, 2010

First my thought on Round 1 then my predictions and thoughts on RD 2.

Lakers going to game 6 surprised me, since I had them winning in five.

San Antonio winning was a big shocker.

Utah beating the Nuggets also surprised me because I thought Anthony would step it up.

The last surprise is the Celtics beating the heat in 5 games instead of 7 games, which is what I thought would happen.

Western Conference:

Spurs beat Suns in seven games

Too much experience in the playoffs for the Spurs and Richard Jefferson is the X-Factor

Lakers beat Jazz in six games

Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol- best tag team in the NBA.

Eastern Conference:

Cavaliers beat Celtics in seven game

Lebron James is a beast.

Magic beat Hawks in six games

Too much depth and Vinsanity can shoot the jumper.

NBA Playoff picks RD 1

April 15, 2010

Here are my playoff picks for RD 1 with reasons why:

Western Conference:

Lakers defeat Thunder in game 5

Kobe Bryant + Paul Gasol= one of the best tandems in the league

Mavericks defeat Spurs in in game 5

Great starting five

Suns defeat Trailblazers in game 6

Jason Richardson is an underrated guard

Nuggets defeat Jazz in game 6

Carmelo can break down the Jazz defense

Eastern Conference:

Cavaliers beat Bulls in game 4

King James will dominate

Magic defeat Bobcats in game 5

Bobcats are too young for the playoff. Experience wins

Hawks defeat Bucks in game 6

Joe Johnson’s three point shooting

Heat defeat Celtics in game 7

This will be close, but Celtics too old. Youth will prevail in this matchup

Jordan Award: UCONN Women’s Basketball

April 8, 2010

I’ve got one word for the 2010 Women’s Baksetball National Champions, Dominant.

They are on a 78 game win sreak and haven’t lost in like two years

Not just a 78 winning streak, but the womens basketball got their seventh national title and has had four undefeated seasons in their history.

They remind me of the 90′s Bulls with Jordan, Pippen, and Rodman.

Maya Moore had 23 points and 11 rebounds and the co-star goes to Tina Charles nine points and 11 rebounds.

They scored just 12 points in the first half and had 41 in the second half.

It was a valietnt effort by the Stanford Cardinals, but 2nd doesn’t win any major accolades like National Champion.

Even though, this a women’s team, their hard work and determination through the 78 game win streak should be seen as one of the greatest team’s to ever play any sport in the history of all sports in America.

NCAA Championship game picks

April 5, 2010

Dear readers,

I’m sorry that both of my semi-finals picks were wrong with MSU and WVU winning their games, but I guess I underestimated Butler and Duke. Now that the championship game is less than 10 hours away and I’m sure that this pick wont fail, or else I will be doing a blog on Butler and one of the greatest underdog stories in College Sports.

Duke 75- Butler 68

Here are my five reasons why:

1.  Coach K has been coaching, since 1974, which is before Butler’s coach Brad Stevens was even born.

2. They have talent (John Scheyer, Kyle Singler, and Nolan Smith to name a few), which talent always overcomes defense in championship moments.

3. Brian “Zoubs” Zoubek is a 7 ft 1 in. junior Center from Jersey. Butler’s tallest player is 6′ 11 and hes a freshman.

4. They have been in 15 final fours compared to Butler’s first final four.

5. I think the Blue Devil is a better mascot and it’s definitely less generic then the bulldogs. Plus, wouldn’t a blue devil win a fight against a Bulldog any day?

Hatorade award: Indianapolis Star

April 4, 2010

My Hatorade award goes to the Indy Star for their depiction of Coach K of Duke University.

Being professional journalists you should not make fun of one of the best coaches of all-time, even though you may have thought it was funny.

Way to make sports journalists look bad because of the power that your newspaper was leaked and millions of Americans saw this image.

The next image from your paper should be of the editor that let this print in the paper.

Good job in losing your credibility and professionalism as a newspaper.

Sorry readers if my first Hatorade award sounds mean, but this is how my  Hatorade will run usually.

Plus  if you had the chance, you would throw some fruit punch Hatorade in these editors faces too.

Jordan Award: Bob Huggins and IU Baseball

April 4, 2010

My Jordan Award goes to two different entities today.

The first goes to Bob “Huggy Bear” Huggins. It goes to him because of his consoling on Saturday’s game to senior guard Da’Sean Butler, who got injured on the play and later found out that he tore his ACL, and sprained his MCL. This moment showed the WVU fans that Huggy Bear has a soft side and it touched me and my others, as Butler played his last game as a Mountaineer.

The other Jordan award goes to the Indiana University Baseball team, not

because I am a freshman at IU, but that they beat Michigan today 26-6.

Even though they lost the first two this weekend to one of the top Big Ten teams, they beat the Wolverines by 20 runs. Special honors goes to senior infielder Tyler Rogers, who went four for four with a run and six RBIs in the game. Also, Rogers got his first homerun of they year. I hope the Hoosiers get better in Big Ten play as their record currently is 13-13 and 1-2 in the Big Ten.
